Acclaimed author Susanna Clarke will be in conversation with Rob O’Connor, Chair of York Literature Festival, at this very special event. Not only will Susanna be discussing her work but also literature and fantasy fiction more widely, especially the genre’s enduring popularity and roots in folklore and mythology.

About Susanna Clarke:

Susanna Clarke’s debut novel Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell was first published in 2004 in more than 34 countries and has now sold over 4 million copies worldwide. It won British Book Awards Newcomer of the Year, the Hugo Award and the World Fantasy Award in 2005. It was longlisted for the Man Booker Prize and shortlisted for the Whitbread First Novel Award and the Guardian First Book Award. The Ladies of Grace Adieu, a collection of short stories, some set in the world of Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, was published by Bloomsbury in 2006. Her second novel Piranesi was an international bestseller and won the Women’s Prize for Fiction 2021, and was shortlisted for the Costa Novel of the Year Award.
