To Britain from Japan, in our own words
No one knows how many Japanese women live in the UK.
No one knows their reasons for moving here.
No one knows their varied loves or hates, their achievements or mistakes, their opinions and contradictions.
No one knows their stories…
Come to our café to see the fascinating exhibition from New Earth Theatre, Tsunagu/Connect, which documents the lives of Japanese women in the UK since 1945.
From Aberdeen to Huddersfield, Belfast to London, they have collected stories that will amaze, shocked and delight you, while upending tired stereotypes of Japanese women. The exhibition is made up photography, audio, film and augmented reality.
“This new initiative by New Earth Theatre is an opportunity to discover changes in patterns of migration and to assess the impact of the Japanese community in Britain and in particular what the roles and experiences of Japanese women have been in this country.” – Heidi Potter, Chief Executive The Japan Society
