Theatre Queers Workshop – 03 September

A Roots Take Part project

Saturday 03 September, 1pm – 2pm, The Studio at York Theatre Royal or online…

‘Because trans people are f-ing hot. And working this out felt like I’d unlocked some sort of magic portal…’ Bette in Happy Meal

Tabby Lamb wrote Happy Meal to enable two trans characters to recognise that they were born in exactly the right bodies. This deeply human thought has never before been said in a play, and the success of Happy Meal is a potent reminder of the power of untold stories to capture hearts and minds.

Theatre Queers is a free workshop led by members of the Happy Meal creative team for queer writers of all experiences!

Join us online or irl as Tabby shares her favourite prompts to get you writing in the session, alongside receiving tips on writing for the stage and advice on how to get your work produced. Participants are invited to write short monologues dramatising your untold queer stories.

Up to five of these monologues will be performed this September alongside performances of Happy Meal at the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry. The monologues will be filmed and subsequently released online.

Places are limited to 20 participants and in signing up we ask you to be certain that you will attend. You can attend in-person at York Theatre Royal, meeting the Happy Meal team and your fellow writers (and hopefully seeing Happy Meal!) or via Zoom if you prefer – we just ask you to indicate how you plan to attend at signing up.

Register here. Once all places are allocated, applications will close.
