We are looking for cyclists to help us generate power for a radical, off-grid show.
About the show
A Play For The Living In A Time Of Extinction is a major new production co-produced by Headlong, the Barbican and York Theatre Royal, directed in York by Mingyu Lin.
This innovative one woman show takes us on a life-changing journey to confront the urgent ecological disaster that is unfolding around us. Part ritual, part battle cry, this fiercely feminist production is a moving exploration of what it means to be human in this era of man-made extinction.
The defining concept behind the show is that all the energy used to power everything on stage will be generated by cyclists (and this is where you come in!).
– 8 cyclists are needed per performance to cycle 1 hour 20 minutes.
– Cyclists will be cycling on the York Theatre Royal Main Stage during the performance.
– The bicycles will be powering the entire show, so the cyclists are an integral part of the performance.
– You will be considered part of the cast, alongside Stephanie Hutchinson (main actor) and a community choir.
– You will not need to bring your own bike – these will be provided for you.
– You will need to be a good level of fitness and feel comfortable cycling for 1.5 hours straight through.
– Being involved as a cyclist for the show would be on a voluntary basis.
