Our Press Officer Steve Pratt caught up with Emily Tang who will be playing the role of Princess Jasmine in our upcoming production of Aladdin.
Who do you play in Aladdin and what does she get up to in the story?
I play Princess Jasmine. She’s Aladdin’s love interest and together they help each other to live happily ever after.
Describe her in three words.
Kind, strong and loyal.
What was the first pantomime you saw?
Snow White at my local theatre and I was 5. From what I can remember it was incredibly magical, as most pantos are.
Have you appeared in a pantomime before?
Last year was my professional panto debut and I played Princess Peony in Aladdin at The Key Theatre in Peterborough.
What other pantomime role would you like to play.
I would love to play the villain. I think it would be an absolute blast and different to anything I’ve done before.
Do you have a favourite Princess?
Princess Tiana from Princess and The Frog.
Tell us about appearing in Claus the Musical.
Claus the Musical was my professional debut and I honestly loved every second of it. Both cast and crew were some of the most talented and kind people I’ve ever met. The show itself was gorgeous and such a magical piece to perform at Christmas time. I’d do it all over again in a heartbeat!
Any hobbies or interests away from work?
When I do get a bit of spare time, I love to play video games with my partner. However we have to play together rather than against each other as I’m a bit rubbish!
Tell us something about yourself that not many people know.
I’m a huge Disney parks nerd!
Do you know York?
I’ve never been to York before so I’m excited to spend the Christmas period here and explore the city.
Aladdin is at York Theatre Royal from 03 Dec – 05 Jan.
