This November the John Godber Company is bringing acclaimed playwright John Godber’s brand new show The Highwayman to York Theatre Royal from the 14- 16 November! The Highwayman is expected to be an exciting and exhilarating romp through history!
John said: ‘I am so excited to be bringing ‘The Highwayman’ to the York Theatre Royal, I cannot think of a better city to stage a show about highwaymen!’
Indeed, the show is set in 1769 when Yorkshire’s population had exploded, the races at York were packed, the new theatre in Hull thriving, and the Spa towns full. Yorkshire was the place to be; a region drunk on making money, social climbing, gambling and gin, but with wealth in abundance, the temptation was great.
The Highwayman is a thrilling theatrical adventure coming from the region where Turpin was caught and Nevison made his great leap! Godber’s Highwayman is visceral, venal and very funny. History has never felt so modern, theft never more attractive.
The cast includes Emilio Encinoso-Gil, who recently toured across the UK in Godber‘s ‘Do I Love You?’, as well as Yorkshire actors Jo Patmore and Matheea Ellerby, who is a member of the Godber Theatre Foundation.
They are all joined by Lancastrian actor-musician Dylan Allcock.
The Highwayman is at York Theatre Royal from the 14 – 16 Nov.
