Our friendly, helpful staff and volunteers will assist you in finding the perfect outfit for your event or creatively piece together stock for your production.

We are situated in the Birch Court industrial estate on Osbaldwick Link Road, just off Hull Road by the turn off for B&Q. Look out for the big York Theatre Royal Costume Hire window sign.
Car parking spaces are opposite our entrance, please feel free to pull up outside our reception door for loading/unloading.
We’re located right by the bus stop for the York First Bus Route 6
(Clifton Moor – City Centre/Railway Station – University)

Rail and mannequin hire is available. Unfortunately, we don’t hire out props or sets.
Hiring
We cater to all sorts of groups and individuals, including:
Minimum hire period of one week, discounts are available for longer hires. We can place items on reserve for you until needed.
Please let us know in advance if you are bringing a large group for fittings.

How much does it cost?
Items are priced individually, please contact us with your enquiry and we can give you an idea of cost.
Are there discounts for schools and students?
A 10% discount is available for schools, colleges, and universities.
How can I pay?
We operate a cashless system – cards, BACS, cheques are all accepted
Will you post my costume items out to me?
Unfortunately, due to our limited opening hours, we are unable to offer a delivery/postage service or remote costuming.
Is York Costume Hire accessible?
Our ground level reception and fitting rooms are fully wheelchair accessible, but there is limited access to the main store. Please let us know of any access needs in advance of your visit and we will assist.
We have made changes to be more eco-friendly! Please bring your own bags if possible.
Please be aware our main store is a warehouse and working environment – warm clothes & sturdy footwear is advised! Please supervise children at all times.
Appointments are advisable, do let us know in advance if you are bringing groups of 6+ for fittings.

York Theatre Royal Costume Hire Talk & Tour
DID YOU KNOW?
Pauline and the team at Costume Hire do Talks and Tours! Join them for an hour and a half with a fun-filled, informative talk about our fabulous collection, a tour of the amazing store and a chance to do a bit of dressing up!
We can cater for a minimum of 8 and a maximum of 20 people at a time. Available Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 10-4. £12 per person.
